Hedonism Resorts in Jamaica: For the Mind, Body, Spirit and
Soul
When
someone tells you they're going to stay at Hedonism, immediately
you think: wild parties, nudity, and all-out reckless behavior.
Not so. Well, not completely. If you are not comfortable seeing
people in the nude, then Hedonism resorts may not be for you. But,
if you are open to the “au natural” lifestyle, even
if you don’t participate, then a stay at one of the Hedonism
resorts in Jamaica is a great place to get away for some unadulterated
fun.
Hedonism II, located on the tip
of the world-famous Negril Beach in Jamaica, was the first of the
two Hedonism SuperClubs resorts to open, celebrating its 27th birthday
this year. The resort boasts two beaches, one nude, and one that
the regular guests have named “The textile beach.”
Surrounded by lush gardens, the
resort offers visitors the opportunity to sneak away for a quiet
afternoon under a shade tree or take a plunge in one of the two
new plunge pools – each with cascading water falls. There
is a swim-up bar at the “prude beach” with a cool whirlpool.
With the heat reaching as high as 95 degrees when I arrived, I thought
the cool water whirlpool was a brilliant idea.
Naughty and Nice
Hedonism II recently added improvements to the property. An ice-skating
rink, jungle bridge and glass bottom Jacuzzi are just some of the
new additions. The disco sports neon lights, a glassed-in area where
dancers can watch the pool activities just beyond the music, and
a lot of naked people. On the night that my sister and I threw caution
to the wind and attended the pajama party, we were greeted by frolicking
guests wearing costumes ranging from transparent bridal negligees
with matching thongs to face cloths fashioned to cover the private
area. We were clearly overdressed in our “regular pajamas,”
but I was not feeling at all uncomfortable. We watched the dancers
gyrate to the jungle beat, bumping and grinding on the dance floor
as curious onlookers stood in the doorway sizing up the scene. The
overall feeling of freedom was evident. Leaving their inhibitions
at the entrance to Hedonism, the guests were enjoying the carefree
lifestyle allowed them on this vacation to sunny Jamaica.
“It’s more a state
of mind,” said Richard Bourke, general manager at Hedonism
II. “It’s not about sex, though there is lots of that
going on. It’s a feeling of being free, uninhibited.”
When asked about the wild atmosphere
that people associate Hedonism with, Bourke said that he and his
staff share with their guests that there is a level of comfort that
is tolerated. “If someone is uncomfortable with something
going on, we address it. There have been times when we have had
to ask people to leave – but it’s rare. We allow it
but only within the realms of decency. Most people are here to have
fun and let loose for a week or more. We have 37 percent repeat
business every year, and most of our clients are couples who come
in groups to meet up with friends they have met here.”
Bourke said that the guest that
frequent Hedo II range in age from 21 – 50, with a lot of
them being closer to 50. “They go home, keep in touch over
the year and then return to Hedo together,” he says. “It’s
a lifestyle. They make great friends here.”
The resort has a wide range of
scheduled activities throughout the day and some that the guests
orchestrate in the evening. There is plenty to do for the adventurous
visitor, as well as the guest who is more conservative. A flying
trapeze and trampoline clinic is offered and the fitness centre
is fully equipped for those wanting to keep that trim figure in
shape for the next visit.
The super-inclusive program allows
guests to experience something new every day. Windsurfing, snorkeling,
water-skiing, sunfish sailing and glass-bottom boat rides just to
name a few. A professional instructor is available to teach guests
how to scuba dive.
Eat and drink as much as you want
to – day and night. Indulge in the lavish buffets or dress
in your Sunday best and enjoy a Jamaica-style Italian dinner at
Pastafari. Be sure to make your reservations early.
Hedonism II now has a sister
– Hedonism III. Located on 15 acres of waterfront property
at the north end of Runaway Bay, Hedo III offers the same exciting
programs to visitors. Pleasure abounds in the new resort, masked
only by the quaint Victorian architecture and beautifully landscaped
gardens. The see-through slide that snakes through the disco will
give visitors lots to talk about when they return home from paradise.
There are over 200 rooms at Hedonism
III, each with a view of the ocean or the pool and a Roman Jacuzzi
tub. Hedo III offers visitors a chance to stay at Jamaica’s
first ever “swim-up room.”
Hedo II or Hedo III – whatever
your pleasure, it’s all included when you indulge in the experiences
at the Hedonism resorts. Curiosity will bring you there, and the
fun will keep you coming back year after year. Sometimes it’s
just nice to be a little naughty.
